I just found your site while searching for the Sanskrit name for this posture. You have some great break-downs of poses, and I'm very much looking forward to perusing your blog and seeing what new postures you post. Thanks & Namaste!

Tea is incredibly high in fluoride content - green tea too.

Fluoride accumulates in the body and lowers the IQ.

Great pose I use a lot. But I was wondering, what is the counter pose to rebalance after this pose?

Thanks for the info. I drink several cups of regular Lipton tea each day only because I prefer a warm liquid. I will cut back or change to herbal tea.

Thanks Fatima,
So, here is my take on Yoga for weight loss. Anything you do that helps to build muscles will also be good for weight loss by increasing your resting metabolism.
The most important thing for weight loss by far though is diet. This means getting the proper nutrition to help build muscles (lots of good protein in general and a good carb/ protein snack before and after your practice) and avoiding empty processed foods that pack on pounds but leave you hungry for more.
Diet is 90% of the equation in most cases. It's a complex issue too. No one diet or guideline will work for everyone. Eating right doesn't necessarily mean eating less. In some instances, it can mean eating more to provide the fuel the body needs to build the muscle.
There are a ton of sports nutrition books and sites out there that could help you further if you are interested. And from a strictly yogic perspective, going to an Ayurvedic doctor to help you determine the right kinds of foods for your specific constitution will help you figure out how best to have a balanced diet tailored to you.

Green tea does have some caffeine in it, though way less than coffee. Green tea does has a lot of other beneficial effects though, such as helping to burn fat internally, which can help with flexibility. Everything in moderation (including moderation). It's really up to you.

[...] Purvottanasana is a great pose that opens the front of the chest and shoulders, works the hamstrings and back, and provides a great counter to Chaturanga by strengthening the opposing muscles and providing balance in the shoulders. (you can read more about the importance of balancing strength work in the shoulders here). [...]
