About Me
My background
Having been in some form of athletic training for most of my life, i’ve always loved the joy and sense of play that can be found through physicality. After moving to the pacific northwest in the late ’90s, I took my first yoga class in 2001 and over the years it has become an indispensable part of my life. I found and continue to find it nourishing both physically and spiritually. In 2008 I decided that I wanted to start teaching, and enrolled in the teacher training program at Seattle’s 8 limbs yoga studio.
About the same time, after seeing a cirque du soleil show, I absolutely fell in love with the circus arts and am now completely hooked. I have trained and taught classes at various circus schools around Seattle and the northwest. I have studied aerials, acrobatics, and tumbling among other things and currently specialize in hand balancing. I also studied for and received my personal training certification from the national strength and conditioning association in 2008.
What can you expect in my classes?
Beginning with a theme of the week drawn from various philosophical traditions (primarily the yoga sutras), I lead students through a combination of traditional yoga asana, interspersed with movements taken from a wide variety of modalities. While my classes can be challenging, I strive to provide options for all students. I don’t believe that there are advanced versions of poses, simply options which are appropriately challenging for each unique moment and each unique body. My classes give you the freedom to discover what nurtures you. I see asana practice not just as a way to stay healthy, but as an amazing opportunity to understand ones self on a deeper level.
